North Miami offers rental assistance to residents facing homelessness

North Miami, FL (February 7, 2023) – As housing affordability continues to reign as a key issue for most areas around the country, the City of North Miami is providing a solution by offering rental assistance to its residents facing homelessness. Through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Home-American Rescue Plan (ARP), the city will help residents facing homelessness; fleeing domestic or dating violence; or surviving sexual assault, stalking or human trafficking and in need of rental assistance. “The City of North Miami is committed to helping our most vulnerable residents obtain affordable housing and feel safe and secure as they advance toward having a quality of life in the city,” North Miami Mayor Alix Desulme, E.D. explained. “We will help these residents and provide them with a comprehensive level of service through the social services offered by the city.” Qualified North Miami residents can receive rental assistance for up to three months with an option to receive assistance not to exceed 24 months. They can also receive security deposit assistance to help them along their journey. To qualify, residents must be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident or granted legal status; a resident or prospective resident of the City of North Miami; fall within the sheltered or unsheltered homeless populations, at risk of homelessness, fleeing or attempting to flee a domestic violence or human trafficking situation; and the household annual income is at or below 60% of the area median income (AMI). “We are here to help,” North Miami Housing and Social Services Department Director Alberte Bazile said. “We are focused on preventing individual or family homelessness with this program and ensuring residents have a place to restart, rebound, and progress towards a new chapter in their life.” The North Miami program opens Tuesday, February 21, 2023.
